For those of us who are browsing through all the commits and wonder -like me- which of these commits are new compared to the SDK 2.2.1 we already had.
NON-OS SDK V2.2.1 we used was released on 2018.06.08

I have no idea which of these commits were already included in the v2.2.1 release.

I am very interested in these:

• fix(lwip): remove fast reconnect when ip lost
• fix(pp): Disable receiving ampdu packet
• fix(net80211): Connect wrong AP if there is hidden ssid AP around
• fix(wifi): Fix force light sleep can not sleep issue

And potentially interesting:

• fix(dhcp): Update MACADDR & IP after send DHCP ACK
• fix(wifi): Fix station connect issue when upgrade sdk from old version

Is there anything special I should do to help test this PR?

Well at least your Travis builds will now test it with the new SDK.
If you plan to have it available as something that has to be set intentionally, then I can wait testing it till after the merge, so we can make sure the tests are based on the same commits. (leaving out any possibility for checkout mishaps)

Not exactly. Our 2.2.1 is coming from c885542 (so not after 2018 feb 22).
It is also a frankeinstein fw (@igrr may elaborate) (not a release, like sdk-pre3).

I have no idea which of these commits were already included in the v2.2.1 release.

At least everything after this date is not in "our" 2.2.1.

I made a test build in ESPeasy using this SDK 2.2.2 and so far did not see any issue.
I will include it in our Travis builds to see if something will appear broken and also people can test builds with it.
It reports: ESP82xx Core 2.6.0-dev, NONOS SDK 2.2.2-dev(c0eb301), LWIP: 2.1.2 PUYA support

Tested latest Tasmota dev build (6.4.2.22) with nonos skd 2.2.x. It works and no errors but it is laggy....
With nonos sdk 2.2.1 it is fast and responsive and works without any issue

It is indeed a bit slower.
To check here, I tested the load speed of a few pages and indeed SDK 2.2.2 is about 50 - 100 msec slower in rendering a page, It is somewhere between core 2.4.2 and core 2.6.0 with SDK 2.2.1

core-master is faster with sdk-2.2.2 than sdk-2.2.1, and both are slower than core-2.4.2+sdk-2.2.1 ?

Nope, core 2.4.2 + SDK 2.2.1 is the slowest.

Edit:
Upon further inspection, core 2.4.2 is only slower when rendering a large page with lots of string replacements.
Other pages are equally fast. (SDK2.2.1)
